Percussor Expiratory Adaptor for Pegaso Devices
The Percussor Expiratory Adaptor is a valved circuit component for the Pegaso series of cough assist and ventilator devices (Pegaso E7C, Pegaso Plus and Pegaso Cough Assist). It fits between the patient interface (mask, mouthpiece, or catheter mount for tracheostomy or endotracheal tubes) and the circuit tubing.
Mandatory for percussion (IPV) mode
This adaptor is mandatory when using percussion / IPV mode. During percussion the device delivers rapid, high-frequency pulses of air to loosen and mobilise secretions, and the patient needs an open pathway to exhale. The expiratory adaptor provides this.
How the valve is used:
- Open for percussion / IPV mode – lets the patient breathe out freely while percussive pulses are delivered.
- Closed for cough assist / mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) mode – seals the circuit so the full positive (insufflation) and negative (exsufflation) pressures reach the airway to produce an effective assisted cough.
Because the valve can be closed, one adaptor covers both therapy modes. A standard 22 mm straight adaptor cannot be used as a substitute for percussion mode.

Care and replacement recommendations
- Bacterial filters in the circuit: change weekly, or more frequently if soiled or wet.
- The expiratory adaptor and all other parts of the circuit: wash daily in warm soapy water, rinse and air dry, and replace monthly.
