POWERbreathe Classic IMT – Medic Model
A simple, effective way to strengthen your breathing muscles.
The POWERbreathe Classic Medic is a manually adjustable Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) device designed to help you build breathing strength at your own pace. Like dumbbells for your diaphragm, it uses a spring-loaded valve to add resistance every time you breathe in, so your breathing muscles have to work harder — the same principle as training any other muscle group.
The Medic model has the gentlest starting resistance in the Classic range, with 9 adjustable levels (10–90 cmH₂O) and small, even steps between them. This makes it a good choice for people with weaker breathing muscles, people recovering from illness or surgery, older adults, and anyone told by their doctor or physiotherapist to use IMT as part of a rehabilitation program. It's also suitable for kids or teens who don't play regular sport, with adult supervision recommended for anyone under 16.
The Classic Medic is easy to use and drug-free, so it won't interfere with any medication. You can use it on your own at home, or as part of a program guided by a health professional.
How It Works
Breathe out fully, then place the mouthpiece in your mouth and take a fast, strong breath in. A calibrated spring valve pushes back against your breath, so you have to work to lift it open — that's the resistance. As your breathing muscles get stronger, turn the dial up to increase the challenge.
Recommended Use
Aim for 30 breaths, twice a day, at least 6 hours apart. Choose a level where you can just complete 30 breaths comfortably, then turn the resistance up slightly once that feels easy. A first training block of 4–6 weeks is a good starting point, with ongoing training every second day after that. If you're using the Medic as part of a rehabilitation program, follow your doctor's or physiotherapist's guidance.
